The particle physics programme of DESY includes strong contributions to the LHC experiments at CERN and the preparation of future experiments. The experimental programme is enhanced by collaboration with a strong theory group. The DESY ATLAS group in Zeuthen is involved in data analyses focusing on searches for dark matter and precision measurements using top-quarks. In addition, the group is involved in the operation of the ATLAS Silicon Strip detector, the development of the ATLAS ITk Strips Detector for the High Luminosity LHC and in tracking and b-tagging in ATLAS.

About the role:

  • Analysis of ATLAS data
  • Contributions to performance studies, operation or upgrade of the ATLAS detector

To be successful in this role:

  • Diploma/Master in Physics with excellent grades
  • Knowledge in particle physics experiments
  • Teamwork, communication and presentation skills
  • Good English language skills

DESY in Zeuthen does not grant doctoral degrees directly but collaborates with Humboldt university in Berlin. Candidates for thesis research will have to satisfy the universities terms of admission for doctoral theses.

PhD students receive a monthly salary of two third of the payment of the remuneration group 13 of Annex A to the TVöD (Federal Government).
