The PUNCH4NFDI consortium aims at a sustainable utilisation of research data and the establishment of a FAIR data management for particle physics, astroparticle physics, astronomy, and hadron&nuclear physics. In doing so, the consortium builds especially on unique expertise in "big data" management, in "open data" and in data transformations. The consortium, which is part of the German national research data infrastructure (Nationale Forschungsdateninfrastruktur, NFDI) represents more than 40 institutions - university Institutes, Max Planck Institutes, Helmholtz centres, as well as Leibniz institutes. As a Post-Doc in PUNCH4NFDI, you will develop novel pattern recognition algorithms with classical and machine learning methods for the fast identification and reconstruction of charged particles at future collider detectors and planned on-site experiments such as LUXE. The algorithms will be ported to fast modern hardware such as FPGAs and GPUs in order to study the applicability of real-time reconstruction and feature extraction for these experiments.

About your role:

  • Development of fast pattern recognition algorithms for charged particle reconstruction at future collider detectors and on-site experiments
  • Application of machine learning methods where possible
  • Porting of algorithms to dedicated hardware (GPU, FPGA)
  • Development of track reconstruction and analysis software in C++

About you:

  • PhD in particle physics or related field or equivalent qualification
  • Extensive knowledge of software development in C++ and Python
  • Experience with machine learning
  • Experience in HEP tracking software would be an asset
  • Fluent English in verbal and writing
  • Team oriented work attitude
