Postdoc for Electron Crystallography

The Coherent Imaging Group at DESY develops and applies novel methods for structure determination of molecules at atomic resolution. For biomedical applications, the group is developing sample preparation methods for electron diffraction and crystallography at the high-energy electron gun, REGAE. In this context, we are looking for a dedicated and experienced Postdoc to support us in an exciting innovation project with the aim to turn one of our patented ideas at DESY into a marketable product. The position is funded by DESY's department for Innovation and Technology Transfer for one year full-time or up to two years 50% part-time.

About your role:

  • Carry out collaborative research in an interdisciplinary field of physics, molecular biology and engineering
  • Develop and test prototypes of sample holders for electron crystallography
  • Take part in crystallography measurements and data analysis
  • Disseminate results through presentations and publications
  • Conduct market analyses and identify business opportunities

About you:

  • PhD in physics, molecular biology or a related field
  • Experience in conducting research and development projects
  • Interest in the field of innovation management
  • Experience in crystallography is an asset
  • Strong analytical skills and strategic thinking
  • Strong communication skills and persuasiveness
  • Very good English skills, both written and spoken
