We invite applications for a PhD scholarship in plasma astrophysics/astroparticle physics. The successful applicant will join the research group led by Prof. Huirong Yan at University of Potsdam and Deutsches Elektronen-Synchrotron (DESY) and work on topics involving any of the following topics: turbulence, magnetic field, and cosmic rays. The starting date is Sept. 1st in 2025. The position is for three years and is expected to lead to PhD degree at the Uni Potsdam.

Potsdam is one of the four major locations for astrophysical research in Germany, characterized by a very wide range of research topics in both observation and theory at University of Potsdam. As one of Germany’s largest research centres, DESY carries out fundamental research in various areas including astroparticle physics.

  • Master degree in physics or astrophysics
  • Desired skills include training in astrophysics or plasma physics
  • Strong numerical skills
  • Proficiency in English is mandatory

DESY in Zeuthen does not grant doctoral degrees directly but collaborates with the University of Potsdam. Candidates for thesis research will have to satisfy the terms of admission for doctoral theses of the University. PhD students receive a monthly salary of 67% of the payment of the remuneration group 13 TVöD (Federal Government).
