The position is affiliated with the DESY Experiment Control group FS-EC. We are a team of technicians, engineers and scientists working closely together to ensure continuous modernization, operations and maintenance of scientific control software at photon science beamlines including Linux system administration. Our mission is to provide the IT-Backbone for successful routine and pioneering experiments performed at the DESY-FS user facilities PETRA and FLASH.

About your role:

  • Longtime support specific Linux kernel modules, C++ Tango servers and legacy libraries. This includes porting existing software to new Linux and TANGO versions
  • Development of C++ and Python software for photon science experiments
  • Distribution of Linux Systems and Software (Puppet, Debian-Packaging, Pip/Conda)

About you:

  • Master degree or PhD in computer science, physics, software engineering, or a related field
  • Experience with programming languages Python and C++ and the TANGO control system
  • Experience in DevOps and CI/CD, and containerized software (Podman, Docker, Kubernets)
  • Sound knowledge of Linux systems and their administration
  • Experience of working a scientific context and user support is an advantage
  • Knowledge of full stack web development are an advantage
