DevOps Science Engineer with focus on storage technologies

DESY, with more than 3000 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. 15,000 TB, 10,000 cores, 120 GPUs, 1,000 servers form the IT infrastructure with distributed storage and tape library for the HPC and Kubernetes clusters at the Zeuthen site. International scientists use our IT resources for their research at observatories distributed worldwide. We support the local data centers directly at the location of the telescopes distributed worldwide, among others in Namibia, La Palma and Chile.

About your role:

To bring the storage solutions at the DESY Zeuthen site to a new level together with colleagues, to modernize and support them
Improve data security and evaluate and support data security technologies, including backup and tape connection
Evaluate new storage technologies and tailor them to user requirements
Support and further develop the operation of the data center at the DESY Zeuthen site
Detect and respond to problems in the use of storage services and security incidents, and Solve or fix them
Design and implement solutions for automated operation and monitoring
Developing and implementing IT security concepts and measures

About you:

Completed scientific university education in computer science, information technology, mathematics or equivalent specialist knowledge, skills and experience
Very good Unix admin knowledge
Very good knowledge of storage systems (Ceph, lustre, afs would be an advantage)
Very good knowledge of security techniques in the Unix environment
Good knowledge of monitoring and alerting Unix systems
Experience as DevOps, especially in the automation of installations
Very good knowledge of English and German
Motivation for working in a team on storage systems
