For our location in Zeuthen we are seeking:
Postdoc in X-ray and gamma-ray astronomy
Limited: 3 years | Start: 01.09.2025 | ID: APPO002/2025 | Deadline: open | Full-time/Part-time
DESY, with more than 2900 employees at its two locations in Hamburg and Zeuthen, is one of the world's leading research centres. Its research focuses on decoding the structure and function of matter, from the smallest particles of the universe to the building blocks of life. In this way, DESY contributes to solving the major questions and urgent challenges facing science, society and industry. With its ultramodern research infrastructure, its interdisciplinary research platforms and its international networks, DESY offers a highly attractive working environment in the fields of science, technology and administration as well as for the education of highly qualified young scientists.
The postdoc will be working directly with Dr. Marcotulli, whose research focuses on the study of active galactic nuclei, blazar jets and the co-evolution of jet and supermassive black hole through cosmic time using data from a variety of high-energy facilities (X-rays, MeV, gamma-rays, VHE gamma-rays).
The first round of reviews will start on May 1st, though the position will remain open until filled. The anticipated start date is September 1st 2025, with possibility of delaying until December 1st, 2025, at latest
About your role:
- Multiwavelength analysis of jetted active galactic nuclei primarily using data from current X-ray (NuSTAR, Chandra, XMM/Newton, Swift) and gamma-ray (Fermi-LAT) facilities, both in quiescence and flaring states
- Sensitivity studies and predictions for CTAO
- Support in supervising graduate students
